Dear Reader
Welcome to the second issue of Connections, an ethiKids' forum to explore and address the pressures kids face today. We invite you to read and respond on our website!
Why Kids Lie
New York Magazine® recently featured an article, Learning to Lie, by Po Bronson, in which she interviews Dr. Victoria Talwar from Montreal's McGill University, a leading expert on children's lying behavior. "Encouraged to tell so many white lies and hearing so many others, children get comfortable with being disingenuous. Insincerity becomes a daily occurrence." At ethiKids we often talk about how frequently values collide. "what's the deal?" was developed specifically to help kids and adults bring these issues to the table for discussion so underlying values can be explored and emphasized. Read more.

And Strengthening Character Through Dialogue
We're delighted to find an ever-broadening array of relationships and professions using our "what's the deal?" story cards - building connections to the kids in their lives. Sharing the Good News
Kids learn much about character by seeing it in action - local friends and heroes showing the way. ethiKids' Here's To You! Values in Action Award is one way children can say they noticed - and to say thanks to other kids who make a difference in their lives. Today we sent out this award to Jalone, who helps the basketball coach at a Boys & Girls Club. Ms. Michelle noticed and said he models personal responsibility, learning and gratitude. Congratulations to Jalone! And Here's to You Ms. Michelle. You're a hero too.
If you know someone who would be interested in receiving this newsletter, please feel free to forward. We'd be delighted to broaden this circle of caring adults. Thank you.
